Notes
- User Agent Strings - the initiator of an HTTP call ought to be able to configure their user agent string
- User Agent Strings have long crazy history
- X-FORWARDED For
- Just to explain my comment this web page is good: https://webaim.org/blog/user-agent-string-history/
- Note: specifically the timeframe and era heh
gRegor Morrill working on indiebookclub updates and looking for feedback on the new form: https://gregorlove.com/2026/05/im-working-on/

Brennan Brown's https://tilde.town/~brennan/ and gemini://tilde.pink/~brennan/
- tilde.club* Naty doesn't have one yet but it's in her "to discover" listit's so cool!
Mike Kupietz signed up for one many years ago but never put stuff up - perhaps he will seek support and create it in the next few years!
Misc and Demos
Topic idea for later: Backups and such, Ive been archiving lots of stuff
gRegor's demo new search form in indiebookclub
- Morgans comment: 1. Disabled until click to edit the top 4 fields? 2. Hide the fields to either disabled or a details summary element? ++ Plus one to Joe's comment about opacity maybe
Morgans little demo:
- Accessibility
- General advice about purpose of domain: https://morganwebdev.com as landing page for email domain
Tools for auditing:
- accessibility: https://wave.webaim.org/
- indieweb: https://scan.fyi/
- Thank you! (my color changed, after resetting my browser, its Morgan)
Brennan Brown's tool: https://writer.brennan.day/ bash CLI for blogging
For Mike: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/round_tuit#/media/File:RoundTuit.jpg (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/round_tuit)
- Much happening in unix vulnerability land! Yikes - joe
- https://xint.io/blog/copy-fail-linux-distributions
- https://itcc.uni-koeln.de/en/services/information-security/it-security/vulnerability-cve-2026-43284-dirty-frag
Brennan Brown wrote a little about this here: https://brennan.day/introducing-writer-cli-a-bash-tool-i-built-from-scratch-to-blog-in-the-terminal/#the-heartbreak-of-copy-fail- Etiquette around vulnerabilities, disclosures, AI seeking vulns, etc
- https://blog.himanshuanand.com/2026/05/the-90-day-disclosure-policy-is-dead/
- Ross' take: I am not paid to treat every security issue as P0. I am not paid at all. I generously credit responsible disclosers. Irresponsible ones will be scorned.
- https://forum.sickos.net/ : where one tilde gathered while ssh was down
- Humor about how scary some of the security topics can feel lol-
- "Please turn off your lights to access this website"
- "Dont build the torment nexus"
Mail providers
- Security requirements for email hosting these days are high email providers:
- Protonmail Proton* Mailbox.org mailbox.org* While de-Googling, Naty switched to https://tuta.com/ but after a few years she has switched to Mailbox.org for third-party client support and GPG instead of proprietary Tuta E2EE
Book: Run Your Own Mail Server
- Kickstarter from 2024: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mwlucas/run-your-own-mail-server
Don't Build The Torment Nexus (Zine)
- SOLD OUT? (at present, sold out, yes
Joe Crawford has a few copies he may end up doing zine trades with)
- SOLD OUT? (at present, sold out, yes
Fragmentation of the Internet
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_verification
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geo-blocking
- Ross blocks certain clouds, but does not geoblock. You can change your provider easier than you can change your home.
- Naty has been geoblocked outright from websites or services (like Malwarebytes now doesn't support the region she's in https://www.malwarebytes.com/territory-notice, they were kind enough to refund the remainder of the subscription though)
Naty's Zensical demo
- Decided to migrate her secondary site from WordPress to documentation generator
- https://zensical.org/
- By the creators of Materials for MkDocs mkdocs** Spun off due to conflict: https://fpgmaas.com/blog/collapse-of-mkdocs/
- Naty chose it because she wanted something simpler to Hugo and try a new SSG
- Search is very snappy, but had to do workarounds because it wasn't designed for blogs (e.g. dates, archive pages)
- To convert WordPress content to Markdown, Naty used https://github.com/lonekorean/wordpress-export-to-markdown
- Ross asked how this site is different to https://burgeonlab.com
- Naty plans to put content that is more casual/personal (not so technical) and take a stab at maintaining a digital garden on this domain
- The decision for having multiple websites or consolidating all content into one central website is something that needs to be mulled over
Other SSG
- Topic idea from Morgan: https://www.getzola.org/documentation/getting-started/installation/ Zola SSG? Zola* Ross: I want to like it, because I like Rust. But it's less featureful than Hugo, and I don't work on the generators themselves.
- Fascinating! Thats a great insight. Im not using Hugo as much for all its features, I might see if I could recreate a site with Zola
- there are a lot! https://jamstack.org/generators/
- Category:SSG Can an SSG setup target two domains? - I think with DNS/namespaces?
- Can target multiple domains based on locale/language
- Easier to do independent instances for separate domains - logical isolation
- In Scheme: https://dthompson.us/projects/haunt.html
- Very sparse out of the box, but extreme flexibility
- I don't really understand this but it is probably cool: https://weborigami.org/
CAW
- Sophia hosting
https://aperiodical.com/carnival-of-mathematics/
- Zoom needs Handsome Squidward overlay/effect https://thespongeclub.com/episode-guides/handsome-squidward-guide/
- Michael K showing off the command line interface of his website
- Mind blown! Very cool! :)
- See Open "Expert Mode" CLI Navigation on https://michaelkupietz.com/ (it's one of the tabs on the left; or directly at https://michaelkupietz.com/cli.html
- Normalize post-jog video appearances! You ran! Good for you! Be proud!
- Sophia demoed her new posting interface via flask** https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailscale can be used to access local servers when outside the home network
- Topic idea: Backups, Node modules clearing, fragments of memories and identity
-> Morgan cleared out a bunch of stuff
Zines
