Separate response templates

Is there a special reason why the response templates are separated ({{EIp}}, {{ESp}}, {{ECOI}}, etc.)? From what I can see, they're largely the same and most are wrappers over {{EP|level}}. Could they not be merged? Kodning 🌸 (talk) 00:35, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

RS Not done/Not done for now

Would it be possible to change "Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want made." to one of the "Not done for now" variations? It feels like it might be more encouraging to imply that the edit might be made if a reliable source is found, rather than implying a hard no. CMD (talk) 02:30, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

I don't have strong feelings about this, but if we do, I'd also want to have the "XY" response updated to a "not done for now", since it's pretty similar in that sense. meamemg (talk) 14:38, 8 June 2026 (UTC)

Adding context to the "xy" option

The "xy" option for edit request responses yields it's not clear what changes you want made. Please detail the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. It's clear enough to those of us with the context to understand the point but I can see it being confusing for a newcomer who hasn't really gotten the difference between edit requests and more creating a discussion on the talk page to float a general idea.

I took a shot at making it clearer at . I'm not thrilled with the positioning of the context after the request to use a "change X to Y" format, so I'm wondering whether it would be helpful for the message to read (or to provide an option for the message to read) something like it's not clear what changes you want made. The purpose of an edit request is to ask somebody to make a specific edit that you would make yourself if you were able to. Please detail the specific changes you would like to have made in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate.

At the risk of making it too long, some language I'd think about:

"Edit requests need to include the exact, verbatim, text you want added to and/or removed from the article, along with the exact location that it should go"

Also, I think adding the idea that the post might be just fine to have on the talk page, it just isn't an edit request (I don't love my wording on this):

"If you do not have exact language in mind and would like to have a discussion about that, you can do so here, just don't use the edit request template for this purpose". meamemg (talk) 20:33, 8 June 2026 (UTC)

Deleting Edit Requests from talk pages

This informational article could use some brief guidance on when it is acceptable to delete requests without answering. Empty/single character/malformed requests as a start, which is already covered in the article, but perhaps this should be expanded to requests that are longer but clearly off topic / WP:NOTHERE?
