ABC as a reliable source

[edit]

I saw you asked a question about this. Generally, ABC News is regarded as reliable source for Australian content; they do have obligations to be objective and unbiased as the national broadcaster, see , but as they discuss towards the end of that document, it isn't always easy! And of course those obligations are on ABC staff, not on what a person being interviewed might say (their point-of-view). We can include opinion in Wikipedia provided we make clear it is opinion and whose opinion it is, see WP:ATTRIBUTEPOV, and I usually find that adding the person's role may be helpful to the reader. E.g. saying "Fred Bloggs, President of Anti-SOMETHING Society, demands the government legislate against SOMETHINGbecause it is bad for WHATEVER REASON" is more helpful and honest for the reader than simply saying "SOMETHING should be banned for WHATEVER REASON" or that "Fred Bloggs says SOMETHING should be banned for WHATEVER REASON". Of course, many of the programs/content on the ABC are not news/current affairs material. We would not generally be citing people appearing on shows like Hard Quiz or other programs with a comedy format, as clearly remarks made on these programs may be a joke. If you want to ask any specific question about Australian content, the best place to ask is usually Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board, where people who write Australian content can be found and they will be able to give you more nuanced advice on how to best to present (or not present) certain information in relation to its reliability or whatever your question is. Thank you for being so diligent about leaving warning messages on user talk pages when you revert vandalism. I know it's an extra step, but it makes it easier to justify a block when it's clear that someone has ignored multiple warnings. I appreciate it. Joyous! Noise! 03:34, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, welcome to the tropical cyclone WikiProject! There are thousands of articles and a bunch of editors, so it's always good to get a bit more help. What aspect of storms are you most interested in editing? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:41, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Largely the Australian Region. I have done quite a bit of work on the current season article, as well as on other cyclone related pages, and am hoping to improve a couple of season articles that are lacking information. Mitchsavl (talk) 23:39, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

WP:MOSTREFS

[edit]

Thanks for posting WP:MOSTREFS to the VPIL thread - I'd not come across it before, and it was interesting reading. If I were a betting man, I would not have put money on an article about early modern French politics being in the top five! Cheers, SunloungerFrog (talk) 08:08, 29 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I wouldn't either, though being 51,074 words long would help! Mitchsavl (talk) 11:04, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
