Welcome to my talk page I use the name Cullen328 on Wikipedia, but you can call me "Jim" because that's my real first name. If you want to start a new conversation, please click "New section" or "Add topic" at the top of this page. I keep the old comments from July and August of 2009 that follow the "Contents" here, because these friendly words of greeting made me feel welcome when I first started editing Wikipedia.
The importance of a friendly greeting
Hello and welcome to my talk page. If you want to start a new conversation, please click "New section" at the top of this page. I keep the comments that follow from July and August of 2009 readily visible, because these friendly words of greeting made me feel welcome here on Wikipedia when I first started editing. Please offer your thoughts
I would appreciate comments and suggestions on any contributions I make. I am learning.Cullen328 (talk) 03:22, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- Nice work on Jules Eichorn. He's been needing an article for a while. Will Beback talk 06:28, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- If I may suggest, now that you've posted the Eichorn article the draft below might be deleted. It's your talk page to do with as you like, but it's a bit hard to edit around.
- As for formatting and pictures, a good way to learn is to look around at other articles to see what you think looks best. It can be helpful to break up long blocks of text into subsections. Perhaps it'd be possible to split the biography into two or three eras. Other than that, the formatting is usually kept fairly plain. As for photos, it's easy to upload them: the trick is in finding photos with appropriate licensing. If you have any personal photos then those'd be fine. There are might be pictures of the peaks he did first ascents on in the Wikicommons. File:Cathedral Peak.png is a so-so pic of Eichorn Pinnacle.
- As before, feel free to ask if you have any questions. There are several editors here who are mountaineers or just admirers of the Sierra, so you're in good company. Will Beback talk 21:13, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- PS: Many editors create "sandbox" pages for drafting articles. For example, User talk:Cullen328/Sandbox. Will Beback talk 00:17, 1 August 2009
Your climber biographies
Hey Jim, just wanted to say welcome and thanks for your contributions to the Sierra Nevada climbing history articles. You're filling a niche that's been missing here, I look forward to working with you. --Justin (talk) 11:54, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'll second that. Nice work on Allen Steck and welcome to Wikipedia. I don't know who you are planning to write up next but if your taking requests I think Peter Croft (climber) could really use a page. If you ever have any questions please ask. Thanks again for your great additions.--OMCV (talk) 02:25, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks Justin and OMCV. I am beginning work on Tom Frost and Glen Dawson. Comments on Norman Clyde would be welcomed. I will defintely read up on Peter Croft, OMCV. I am still "learning the ropes" in Wikipedia, to use a climbing analogy, and have all sorts of things in mind. My biggest challenge right now is getting permission to use images. My next biggest challenge is hiking to the top of Mt. Whitney with my wife in ten days - she's never been above 12,000 feet except for the train ride up Pikes Peak. As she's 56 and developing arthritis in her toes, it will be an accomplishment if she (and I) complete the Class 1 feat. Jim Heaphy (talk) 02:34, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Debra and I made it to the summit of Mt. Whitney at 2:20 PM on Friday, September 11. Jim Heaphy (talk) 00:59, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Happy 4th of July, sir!
[edit]

Colman2000 (talk) is wishing you a Happy 4th of July! On this day, we recognize our independence from Great Britain with the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, which ultimately paved the way to our freedom. Celebrate this day in many different ways, such as hosting a barbecue, watching baseball games, or even attending a fireworks show! Happy Independence Day, fellow American!
Colman2000 (talk) 21:07, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, Colman2000. I went to a small town Fourth of July parade in Nevada City, California and then had a sausage sandwich on sourdough bread. Cullen328 (talk) 21:23, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- Yum! That sounds delicious! Colman2000 (talk) 21:26, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
Question from Thecubediamond (19:38, 7 July 2026)
[edit]Hello! how do i add timezones and OK TMO ID to Russian rural locality infobox? --Thecubediamond (talk) 19:38, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, Thecubediamond. I have no expertise in working with time zones and do not know what OK TMO ID means. But I have two suggestions. First, read the documentation for the specific infobox template. Secondly, examine the source code for a similar article that does this right, and try the same technique in the articles you are working on. Cullen328 (talk) 20:03, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
- OK TMO ID is id for tax revenue on settlements in russia Thecubediamond (talk) 20:14, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

If you meet Wikipedia's inclusion criteria, someone else will probably create an article about you eventually. Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged: we want biographies here, not autobiographies.
Please read that entire content guideline carefully. Please also read the Notability guideline for authors. Only a small percentage of published authors qualify. Also read Your first article. It is very difficult for a new Wikipedia editor to write an acceptable article, especially when they have the most serious conflict of interest imaginable - writing about yourself. Question from Indagator architecturalis (09:04, 19 July 2026)
[edit]hello Jim,I am new to editting Wiki and should like guidance how to communicate with the original authors of 2 articles (one in English, another in German) about George HE Jeffery, an architect I have been researching. Because of his 2 careers as Architect then Public Conservationist, I wondered whether 2 separate sections of the article about him would be more appropriate. Look forward to hearing from you. --Indagator architecturalis (talk) 09:04, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, Indagator architecturalis. Using the Page information tool, I can see that the original author in 2016 was User:Shirazibustan who contributed about 11% of the content. A Cypriot editor, User:Κυπρομέδουσα, has contributed about 55% of the content, and you are second with about 26%. Both of those editors are still active on Wikipedia so you can discuss your ideas for restructuring the article with them. The three of you are clearly more interested in this article than anyone else. Cullen328 (talk) 09:20, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
hello how to make a new wiki page? --清清斋 (talk) 09:48, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, 清清斋. Successfully writing a new Wikipedia article is a major challenge. The standards are high. I recommend that you start out by improving existing articles for a few weeks. Please read Your first article and let me know if you have any specific questions. Cullen328 (talk) 17:54, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

Question from Detaalproject (19:41, 24 July 2026)
[edit]Hi Cullen328,
I added a sentence with citations to Epiphanius (Panarion 27.6.6), Optatus (Against the Donatists 2.3), and Augustine (Letter 53.2). I would appreciate your advice on whether the placement of the sentence, the wording, and the use of these citations are appropriate for the article.
I’m still learning Wikipedia editing practices, so any feedback or suggestions would be very helpful. --Detaalproject (talk) 19:41, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, Detaalproject. I am not familiar with the established standards for covering very early popes. Seek out experienced editors who work in that topic area for more specific advice. In general, I feel comfortable in advising you that we prefer citing more modern academic sources as opposed to ancient writers. Standards of historicity were very different back then. So, better to cite a modern professor of early Christian history or comparative religion who analyzes what Epiphanius, Optatus and Augustine say about Linus, rather than selecting the passages from the ancient writers yourself. Cullen328 (talk) 23:54, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
- Another caution is that Wikipedia has 16 articles about various people named Epiphanius. You need to be careful to wikilink to the correct Epiphanius. Cullen328 (talk) 00:00, 25 July 2026 (UTC)

Question from Catherine Varghese (06:59, 28 July 2026)
[edit]I got a notification about a photo I added for my article. They are saying like it may create copyright issues in the future and so to send an email about the right to use this photo. Can i get a clarity about it. --Catherine Varghese (talk) 06:59, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, Catherine Varghese. This appears to be about File:Actress Twinkle Joby.jpg and other files which you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. You stated that the Joby image came from the actress's social media account. Photos posted on social media are presumed to be protected by copyright unless there is specific evidence in writing to the contrary. The photographer is usually the copyright holder. Copyright protected images are not allowed on Wikimedia Commons and are not allowed on Wikipedia to illustrate articles about living people. So, please do not upload copyright protected images. You can upload photos that you took yourself if you are willing to freely license them. You can upload images that are indisputably in the public domain, if you can prove it. For example, photos first published over 95 years ago in the US are in the public domain, since the copyright has expired. Cullen328 (talk) 07:34, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
Question from Oenthealmighty (15:38, 29 July 2026)
[edit]hey i want to publish an article on myself i can write it and give it to you right now --Oenthealmighty (talk) 15:38, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @Oenthealmighty: Please don't. In the vast majority of cases, we do not want people to write about themselves. You are strongly discouraged from doing so. Please read WP:AUTOB to understand why. - In solidarity, UtherSRG (talk) 16:03, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oenthealmighty, I agree with UtherSRG. The vast majority of people who try to write a Wikipedia article about themselves end up failing, wasting their own time and the time of experienced Wikipedia volunteers. Our requirements are stringent. Please read about what makes a person notable and then tell me briefly why you think that you are notable. Keep in mind that there are countless other websites and social media platforms where you can write whatever you want. Cullen328 (talk) 21:35, 29 July 2026 (UTC)

is there any way to prevent an article being deleted by wiki? the article have an notification : Artikel ini diusulkan untuk dihapus berdasarkan kebijakan. --SimaCon (talk) 00:33, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, SimaCon. Yes, article deletion can be prevented by bringing the article into compliance with Wikipedia's Policies and guidelines, or identifying significant coverage of the topic in reliable, independent sources. Which specific article are you concerned about? Is the article on the English Wikipedia or the Indonesian Wikipedia? Cullen328 (talk) 01:07, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
