Akinyemi Oluwaseun Omotayo, also known as Asherkine, is a Nigerian content creator and philanthropist. He is known for producing social media videos.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]

Early life and education

Omotayo was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He studied Mass Communication at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he developed an interest in filmmaking, cinematography and digital content creation.[14][15]

Career

Asherkine began creating online content around 2017 while still an undergraduate. His early work focused on comedy skits, pranks and lifestyle videos before shifting to philanthropy-inspired content. His videos commonly feature helping strangers through cash gifts, business support, educational assistance and shopping experiences.[16]

His online presence has earned him the nickname "Street Santa" because of his charitable content.[17][18][19][20][21]

Philanthropy

Asherkine has supported individuals and communities through donations, educational assistance, business grants and humanitarian interventions. In 2024, he donated a borehole project to the Amper community in Plateau State and also distributed educational materials and scholarships to pupils in nearby communities.[22][23][24][25][26]

Public reception

Asherkine's content has attracted a large following on social media and has been praised for highlighting humanitarian causes. His work has also generated public debate, with some critics questioning whether charitable content should be monetised or filmed for online audiences.[27][28][29][30][31]
